Advancing Your Career Forward:
As I gained experience it gave me a new
perspective on what I enjoy doing. I started to like people interactions,
exploring my creativity, heightened my teamwork attitude, made me a deadline/
end goal driven. I learned new skills and got into project management roles.
Challenges Faced:
I have faced many challenges. From being
bullied, harassed, beaten up and abused as a kid to being discriminated and
laughed upon in the workplace, living each day seemed a challenge once. Almost
all LGBT+ people I know have tried committing suicide because of the impact
these challenges have on their mental health. The fear of being ostracized by
the family, society, friends, and colleagues still stop many LGBT+ people from
'coming out of the closet' and living their authentic self. Laws might have
changed in our county now, but it's the mindset of the people that needs to
change. With people accepting that a person's sexuality, gender identity and/or
expression does not define them. They also have the same desires, passion,
talent and uniqueness which others have.
Advice For Others:
"It gets better." No matter what kind of challenge or difficulty you are facing now, just know that this too shall pass. Just like any previous good or bad memories we have now, which once was our present we passed that stage to be here where we are today. It might most definitely seem a struggle today but tomorrow, you will be an inspiration for others. Never give up. What we do today, can change somebody's life tomorrow. The best example for this is our millions of LGBT individuals who fought the system, to get us the freedom we enjoy today in our country as Sec 377 was read down.
